It’s no stretch to say that when you eat our Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream, you’re striking a blow for economic and social justice. And Half Baked and Dave’s Magic Brownies, too. That’s because, since 1988, the brownies that we’ve used in these flavors have come from Greyston Bakery, a now not-so-little bakery in Yonkers, New York.

The brownies are outrageous but what makes Greyston really special is its commitment to its community. Greyston’s mission is to provide employment and support services to former homeless, low-income and disenfranchised people and their families. To hire and train those who otherwise might not ever find a job. And to get them on the path out of poverty and on to self-sufficiency. And it’s working! Over 2,000 people’s lives are improved each year by various Greyston programs. In Yonkers alone, workers have access to housing if they’re homeless, as well as childcare, employment training, and comprehensive healthcare for those living with HIV/AIDS.
