Free Cone Day 2009 was April 21st this year and our first FCD at Branson Landing was a huge success. We handed out almost 3000 scoops of Ben & Jerry’s best to raise awareness for two non-profits. The Branson Tri-Lakes Humane Society brought a dozen dogs, cats, kittens and rabbits down to the docks and passed out flyers to kids and passers-by. They raised a little over $200 and found a home for Hansel, an older dog that had been at the shelter since 2003. In the afternoon, American Kids, Inc, the little league of young performers, took the stage and entertained everyone with singing and dancing. We’re still not sure how much was in their tip jar at the end of the night but their crowd lingered till the sun went down. George Spankmeister of radio station US 97.7 started us off with a live remote broadcast and gave updates throughout the day. Then Jason Pipitone, master entertainer, and Blake Walker, magician, both of Branson Blast, performing magic tricks, walking on stilts and juggling everything in sight while Sammi Feller and Angela Walker, two more Branson Blast performers, worked out their scooping arms. Several celebrity scoopers were brave enough to get behind the scooper line and get their hands sticky. We started out the day with Michele Sevryn of The Branson Divas treating the customers to ice cream, opera and Viking horns. What a treat it was! Marvelous Marvin Short, Saxophone Player, and Darrell Croy, Jerry Lee Lewis impersonator, from TOP TEN Rock and Role Revue, joined us next. You would have thought Marvin’s head fell into the ice cream case the way his hair stood up about 14 inches! They were joined by Emily Hope Jernigan of Breaking Up Is Hard To Do. You know it is a good event when the Mayor of Branson pays a visit. Our honored Mayor, Mrs. Raeanne Presley City of Branson rolled up her sleeves and scooped to show support. With her was Ambrus Presley, a singer from Presley Country Jubilee, who must have scooped for at least 500 people and smiled every single time. To finish out the day, Carrie Wheatley, Music in Motion scooped like a pro. Doug Gabriel, singer and Mufftar player from The Doug Gabriel Show entertained and kept ‘em laughing. Weatherman Tom Trtan, meteorologist at KOLR 10 & Ozarks Fox had such a good time, we think he’s training for a part time job (and we’d hire him in a heartbeat). All in all, it was a good day with lots of smiling, ice cream cones and awareness for the Humane Society and American Kids. Thanks to all our scoopers and supporters. Join us here on the dock for some ice cream cones, shakes and delicious fruit smoothies. Check out our ice cream cakes or ask us about catering your next gig. Have A Great Summer!!!
