of catle, goats, donkeys, horses, sheep, pigs and poultry from extinction.
Funds were provide in support of promoting the Dutch Belted Cattle, a
rare dairy breed, best suited for the less intensive, more sustainable
grass-based, pasture grazing approach to raising a dairy cow.

Peoples' Fund and The Boston Women's Fund. The aim of the Institute is
to train 20 women of color organizers from New England in a broad curriculum
of fundraising and economic literacy skills, thereby assisting the survival
of women of color organizations in the region.

the collective empowerment of people with disabilities. CMCD works towards
this vision by organizing the disability community at the grassroots level

disabled individuals in outlying areas of the state in grassroots organizing
and advocacy skills order to facilitate effective social change in rural

and intact ecosystem worldwide, by educating the public about critical
biodiversity issues and the relationship between social and ecological
integrity. Funds were provided for the distribution of the documentary
video "Southbound", about the wood chipping industry in the southeastern
U.S., to community groups, forest protection advocates, decision-makers
and the print media throughout the region.

3134 Washington Street Roxbury MA 02119 ESNA is a grassroots membership organization created
and governed by local residents. ESNA strives to increase resident involvement
in community issues through organizing and positive action. Funds were
provided to help residents respond to development in the neighborhood
spurred by gentrification and speculation in ways that address the problems
and inequities faced by the predominately low-income and minority community
members in an effort to create a vibrant and economically viable community
for all residents.
Irish Immigration Center $7,500

and support for recent immigrants; and to work to combat racism within
and in response to the immigrant community. Funds were provided in support
of the Anti-Racism and Immigrant Organizing Project- to extend existing
programs and develop organizing strategies in collaboration with other
ethnic groups.
Massachusetts Jobs with Justice $7,500
5 Magazine Street Cambridge MA 02139 JwJ seeks to build a dynamic movement in which individual fights
and issues are linked to a broader struggle for a community in which all
of us can live with dignity and respect. General support was provided
to, along with their extensive movement building work, help launch their
Campaign for the Right to Organize, which will support indivual organizing
efforts and raise public awareness of how workers are often denied their
right to free speech and free association in the workplace.
Mothers for Natural Law $10,000

understanding that knowledge is a means to bring about change, Mothers
for Natural Law is working to organize a network of trained coordinators
around the country to help disseminate information in their local communities
about genetically engineered foods. These coordinators will use the Consumer
Right to Know petition to educate and unify their communities around the
issue of genetically engineered (GE) foods and to collect a million signatures
to secure the mandatory labeling of these foods.
Senior Action Network (SAN) $10,000
1370 Mission Street, 3rd floor San Francisco CA 94103 SAN is an umbrella coalition of 122 member groups representing
more than 27,000 seniors in San Francisco, from all neighborhoods, ethnic
backgrounds and economic status. In order to maximize their constituents
involvement and effectiveness, SAN has developed Senior University, a
volunteer-led leadership training program designed to promote San Francisco's
seniors ability to organize and advocate around issues of common interest
including health care, crime prevention, transportation, pedestrian safety
and housing. Currently given in English and Spanish, funds were provided
to support the costs related to expand the program into Chinese and Russian
languages.
White Earth Land Recovery Project $7,500

The White Earth Land Recovery Program is a reservation-based multi-issue
organization which works to facilitate the recovery of the Anishinabe
land in Northern Minnesota and the preservation of their culture, environment
and traditional economy. Funds were provided in support of their organizing
and development work to preserve the forests on the White Earth Reservation
by increasing the visibility of the Native economy in the region, advocating,
organizing and litigating against the impacts of unsustainable forest
and land management practices on the health and economy of the Ashinabe
people, and developing an alternative and culturally, economically and
ecologically-sound model of forest management for the reservations of
this region.
