Cones to Careers
Cones to Careers is a Ben & Jerry’s initiative that provides youth who face barriers to employment with job skills and hands-on work experience through internships in our company-operated Scoop Shops.
After a successful pilot program in 2004,
we launched Cones to Careers in our company stores in New York and Vermont in 2005. In NYC, six young people successfully completed the internship, four of whom were offered employment with Ben & Jerry’s after the program. In Vermont, five youth successfully graduated, and, we’re happy to say, all were invited to become employees.
Although the number of youth we can effectively serve is smaller than we had originally projected, the program offers a unique and valuable experience and we’re looking forward to growing its reach.
Here’s what we hope to do with the program in 2006:
- Enroll between six and ten new participants in the Cones to Careers company store programs in Vermont and New York City.
- Launch the program in Las Vegas.
- Evaluate opportunities for expanding the program to franchise locations.
