Waterbury, VT: After 18 years in the business, Ben & Jerry’s cows are taking a well-deserved day off.
Ben & Jerry’s announces its foray into the world of sorbet with six new mouth-watering innovative flavors, made with the all-natural ingredients and superior-quality fruits that you would expect from Ben & Jerry’s.
“It’s light, it’s fresh, it’s cool, it’s pure - what more can you ask for? ,” said Ben & Jerry’s Chairman and co-founder Ben Cohen. “I can’t stop eating it.”
The six delicious fat-free flavors, all made with Vermont Pure TM Spring Water, are Strawberry Kiwi (Strawberry and Kiwi sorbet), Purple Passion Fruit (Passion Fruit and Black Raspberry sorbet), Pina Colada (Pineapple fruit sorbet with coconut), Pink Lemonade (Lemon fruit sorbet), Mocha (Chocolate and Coffee sorbet) and Doonesberry TM (Raspberry and Blueberry sorbet). The Doonesberry TM sorbet package is illustrated by Garry Trudeau, well known for his social and political commentary through his comic strip Doonesbury.
“The Doonesberry TM is indeed the rarest of all berries,” said Ben & Jerry’s Vice Chairman and co-founder Jerry Greenfield. “Highly colorful yet occasionally subdued. Robust and sweet, with more than a hint of tartness. Zonker would be proud.”
Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau commented, “It’s a great privilege for me to join the creative team at Ben & Jerry’s, or as I prefer to call it, Ben’s & Jerry’s. With the introduction of its sorbet line, the company is now headed into uncharted, albeit all-natural, waters, but I have every reason to believe that somebody’s in charge, or will be eventually. In the meantime, I would like to assure the public that every pint of Doonesberry TM is made with only the freshest secret ingredients, including, but not limited to, Ben’s mystery fruit and Jerry’s special water. I’m confident that the introduction of this lovingly licensed spin-off will re-establish B&J’s beloved founders as the frozen food gods they’ve always been.”
Free samples of the six new sorbet flavors will be available at all Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops coast-to-coast during February and March, and pints will appear on grocers’ shelves in March.
