The Waterbury Factory

Welcome to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory Tour

Nestled in the heart of the Green Mountains our ice cream factory sits on a rolling pasture overlooking the Worcester Range heading North from the town of Waterbury. Our guided factory tours are fun & educational for all ages. We offer guests the opportunity to learn about the production process & how the Company’s 3 part-mission statement is incorporated into day-to-day business decisions.

Our tour begins in the Cow Over the Moon theater with a company history moo-vie. Find out how two childhood friends, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, turned a $5.00 correspondence course on ice cream making into a very successful business that shares its success with its employees, & the community & has fun doing it!

From the theater we’ll take you to our glassed-in mezzanine, where you get a bird’s eye view of our production room and an explanation of the ice cream manufacturing process. Then it’s off to the Flavoroom to indulge in a sample flavor of the day!

We invite you to spend the rest of your visit browsing in our Gift Shop for all things Ben & Jerry’s, reading about additional company history or simply munching on your favorite flavor chosen from the variety of options offered in our full service Scoop Shop.

During the summer months you’ll find outdoor activities, cows in the pasture, our Flavor Graveyard and plenty of space for picnicking. The views are spectacular year round! There are lots of sights to see during your visit. We encourage you to explore them all!

We are open seven days a week, year ‘round except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and New Years Day.

We typically make ice cream Monday-Friday although the schedule can change without advanced notice. On the days we are not making ice cream the tour remains the same but to better explain the manufacturing process your tour guide will narrate a video of the production line in action. Of course the tour will still end with a visit to the Flavoroom for a delicious sample of the day!
