What to do When You Get the Munchies: Best Bites by City
Sometimes one dinner's just not enough! Check out these spots next time you're nursing a particularly demanding case of the munchies.
There’s no feeling worse than late night hunger pangs. Lucky for you, we’ve rounded up a list of joints that’ll keep even the widest-eyed night owls stuffed and happy. Whichever way you slice it, these spots take the cake!
Julia’s Empanadas – Washington D.C.
Don’t let the small, unassuming storefront fool you. Their yummy bites pack a ton of flavor, whether you feel like having a savory chorizo empanada before bed, or satisfying your sweet tooth with one of their house-made desserts. Even better, they’re open until 4am on weekends! Why you need an empanada at 4am is your business—just make sure you get it from Julia’s.
Bijan’s Bistro, Chicago
Open until 4am every night, this post-bar destination is good for comfort food in large portions. For a homey feel, try the baked brie or house made mac ‘n’ cheese with applewood smoked bacon. If you’re shooting for something healthier in the wee hours of the morning, grab their beet salad with a big portion of burrata.
Monster Dogs, Seattle
Standing strong as the largest hot dog stand company in Washington, Monster Dogs specializes in high-quality beef and veggie hot dogs. The dogs are cooked to order and topped with whatever classic condiments you can think of– from mustard and sauerkraut to BBQ sauce and their famed cream cheese. With four locations – three in Belltown and one in Capitol Hill – you can enjoy one of their mouth-watering dogs any night of the week. We recommend the beef polish sausage with cream cheese and jalapenos (trust us, it’s amazing).
NY Chicken & Biscuits, Hartford
Swing by this small hole in the wall for some of the best fried chicken (take out or otherwise) we’ve ever tasted. While the fries are great, the chicken is the main attraction at this place, so get three pieces if you’re hungry, and four if you’re HUNGRY. Prices are reasonable and service is quick and friendly, even at midnight. The only thing that would make it better is a drive-through. Even better: they’re open ‘til 4am on weekends!
Koi Fusion, Portland
Serving up Korean BBQ since 2009, Koi Fusion puts an innovative spin on traditional favorites. Combining fresh Mexican-inspired flavors with Korean dishes, Koi Fusion’s hybrid meals will keep your taste buds guessing. All dishes are made with fresh vegetables, locally sourced tortillas, and secret family marinades. Whether you order a Kimchi Quesadilla, Bulgogi Beef Koi Rice Bowl, or the Spicy Tofu Seoul Sliders, you’ll experience an intense fusion of flavors with every bite. This truck stays open ‘til 10:00 pm, making it perfect for those nights when you don't feel like cooking.
Jumbo Slice – Washington D.C.
Late night patrons agree: slices of epic proportions make this place the perfect pit stop on the way home from the bars. For five bucks, you can score yourself a slice of pepperoni the size of your head (which barely fits in the pizza box). We suggest scooting out of your chosen watering hole before last call to beat the rush.
We’ve got the end of your night covered. The rest is up to you!
