Democracy Awakening 2016: Join the Fight For a Real Democracy
Imagine you come across a shiny, pristine pint of Cherry Garcia. “Great!” you think, “I’m hungry, and this looks like just the ticket.” But when you open the lid, it’s emptier than a politician’s campaign promises.
That’s what our democracy is like. It looks great from the outside, but inside it’s a disappointing mess. With corporations and billionaires pouring unlimited, unchecked dollars into politicians’ pockets and new voter restrictions popping up across the country, this is no longer a government of the people and for the people; this is a government of the rich, and for the rich.
Feel cheated? So do we.
Fight Back!
This April, thousands of people from all over the country are coming together to fight back. To fight for a democracy that serves all Americans and puts people back at the center of our government.
Democracy is at the heart of every single issue we face as a nation, from mitigating climate change to economic inequality to how far apart the speed bumps on your street are. Seriously. And when our voices aren’t part of the political process, the outcomes will always favor the nation’s wealthy elites. And that’s as unfair as that empty pint of Cherry Garcia.
So if you have a stake in any issue at all, you have a stake in this issue. And you’ll want to be in Washington, DC to fight for change.
WHO: You! And more than 200 diverse organizations who know that America deserves better.
