8 Tricks for Making One Pint Last All Month

Person holds pint, eats with spoon

January is all about doing more with less. Between resolutions to get more broccoli and kale into your diet and being a little light on spending after the holidays, you’ve gotta enjoy the good stuff sparingly. Don’t fret, we’re here to help. We have plenty of tips and tricks that will help you do what up to this point may have seemed unthinkable—make a pint of Ben & Jerry’s last an entire month.

Seems crazy, we know. But this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve been called crazy. Ready? Let’s do this:

  1. Choose a flavor that you like but don't love.

We know, they’re all pretty loveable. But choosing Cinnamon Buns when you’re a die-hard chocolate lover may curb your cravings a pinch. No promises, though.

  2. Use less by combining with other foods.

Our suggestion? Eat a single spoonful with a giant slice of cake. Or maybe slap a scoop between two cookies. See how easy that is?

  3. Do. Not. Share.

Look, this one should be obvious. If you don’t share your Ben & Jerry’s, it’ll last longer. We’re guessing this isn’t the first time you’ve stumbled across this truth.

  4. Out of sight, out of mind.

Seeing that pint of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough staring at you when you open the freezer can be enough to get your belly rumbling. Hide it behind some frozen peas to save yourself from its mesmerizing gaze.

  5. Swap out the spoon.

Consider eating your pint with a butter knife, a rubber spatula or—ooh, here’s a good one—chopsticks! At the very least, it’ll be entertaining to watch.

  6. Make Ben & Jerry's part of your exercise program.

For every spoonful you eat, drop and give us 20 pushups and/or 50 sit-ups. Before long, you’ll be seriously thinking about the choices you make. Like combining ice cream and vigorous exercise.

  7. Dish it out.

There’s no denying that once the lid is off and spoon meets pint, it’s hard to stop. So transfer your one scoop of Ben & Jerry’s to a dish and then step away from the pint.

  8. Put your money where your mouth is.

For every spoonful of Ben & Jerry’s you eat, put a $1 in a jar. It’s sort of like a swear jar, but for ice cream. By the end of the month, you’ll have all the dough you need for the next month or two's ice cream adventures.

See? Wasn’t that easy? Before you know it, it’ll be next month and you can go right back to the way things were. A pint a night. We mean week. Yes, one pint a week. That’s what we meant.
