6 Surprising Ways to Stay Warm With Ice Cream

December 2, 2019

Brrr! It’s Cold In Here

When the mercury falls and the chills set in, you probably reach for a cuddly blanket or that scratchy wool sweater from Aunt Martha. But, believe it or not, there are some surprising ways to use ice cream — like that pint of Chunky Monkey in your freezer — to stay warm.

Yep, really.

Since we’re hoping the cold is going to be around for a good long time (looking at you, climate change), we wanted to share with you our favorite ways to use ice cream to stay warm on those chilly days:

  1. Dunk It in Something Hot

Like coffee! Or hot chocolate! Nothing beats a mug of hot chocolate with a scoop of Cherry Garcia for warming up, that we know for sure. Trust us, we’ve experimented extensively on the subject.

  2. Just Eat It

Sounds weird, we know, but bear with us. By eating ice cream (or any other cold food, we suppose), many people believe you balance out the temperatures inside and outside your body, resulting in thermal comfort. Don’t believe us? Just ask Boston’s favorite know-it-all.

  3. Trick Your Thermostat

Anyone who’s lived in an old apartment building or a house with unpredictable heat knows that you can’t always control your living temperature. But you can trick your lazy thermostat into cranking out the goods when you need it to. Put your pint on top of your thermostat for a few minutes so that it thinks the room is colder than it is. Once the temperature appears to drop far enough, voila! Heat for you, plus a perfectly softened pint to enjoy.

  4. Make a Whiskey Pour-Over

Mmm, whiskey. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Sounds like something that would really warm you up after a long, cold day. Pour it over a scoop of Salted Caramel Core or Triple Caramel Chunk for an even better experience. And with all those caramel notes dancing around on your tongue, you might end up doing a bit of dancing yourself, which will really get your blood pumping.

  5. Hit Up a Scoop Shop

Picture this: you’re taking a stroll outside on a chilly day, enjoying the beautiful snow-laden trees, when suddenly the chill gets to be too much. You’re cold, and you need a solution ASAP. But, wait! There’s a Scoop Shop! They have heat, comfy chairs, and — duh — ice cream. Grab a cone or a sundae while you warm up, you’ll be glad you did.

  6. Make an Ice Cream Recipe

A funny thing happens every time we try a new ice cream recipe at home or in our test kitchen: as soon as we pre-heat the oven and start whipping up our sweet concoction, the room feels a little warmer. Funny! And if it works for us, we have to assume it’ll work for you. Give it a try with one of our Flavor Guru-approved recipes!
