10 Ways to Cope With the End of Summer

September 20, 2017

It pains us to say it, but summer is coming to an end. Yup — there’s a chill in the air, school’s back in session, and we’re hanging up our bathing suits in favor of hiking boots. As much as we love fall (or, as we like to call it, Pumpkin Cheesecake season), there’s something about summer that’s just the bee’s knees for ice cream lovers. Probably the heat. There’s something about a cold cone on a hot day that brings us to the very peak of ice cream euphoria.

Here’s how we’re coping with the end of summer in the ice cream-iest way possible.

  1. Your Couch Is Pretty Comfy

Sure, ice cream on a hot day beats ice cream on a chilly day. But an afternoon on the couch bundled up with your pint is nothing to balk at. So, there’s that.

  2. Get Pumped About Pumpkin Cheesecake

Pumpkin Cheesecake is only available in the fall, so you can sooth your end-of-the-summer woes with a pint of what might just be the best fall flavor ever. (Actually, it definitely is, we don’t need to be humble.)

  3. Feel the Heat

If you’re really jonesing for a cold ice cream cone on a hot day, try this: head to your nearest Scoop Shop, order your favorite cone or sundae, take it back to your car, and turn up the heat to full blast. BAM. Cold cone, hot heat, happy you.

  4. Put it in Perspective

Summer wouldn’t be as special if it lasted all year. Right? Kind of like that bowl of Limited Batch One Love ice cream — part of its charm is its ephemeral nature.

  5. Sneak Some Summer In

Since the weather’s getting a little chilly, you’ve probably switched over to your wooly fall clothes. But that’s not to say you can’t slip on a bathing suit under your jeans and sweater. Shhh, we won’t tell.

  6. Flavor Transition

Are you more into fruit flavors in the summer, but head in a chocolate-ier direction come fall? Make the transition easier by mixing some Strawberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Therapy in the same bowl. Chocolate covered strawberries anyone?

  7. Leaf It to Instagram

Colorful leaves. Pumpkins. Apple picking. Instagram was practically made for fall photo shoots. Grab a pint and get snapping!

  8. Let Science Help

Here’s a fun fact: Lakes and oceans are often at their warmest in early fall. (Flashback to high school science class: Air can change temperature quickly, but water changes temperature very slowly. So by the fall, water has been heating up all summer, and is at its warmest, even though the air may be getting chilly.) Go have a beach day — but maybe bring a hoodie.

  9. Summer-Inspired Sundae Time

Make a sundae with all your favorite summer treats! Strawberries, marshmallows, blueberries, watermelon, graham crackers . . . everything that you’re most going to miss when sandals and suits turn into sweaters and sneakers. But maybe not all of those together.
