The cash bail system puts legally innocent people behind bars, often for weeks or months at a time, simply because they can’t afford to post bail. That’s time away from their families, jobs, and communities, when they haven’t even been convicted of a crime. Add in the fact that bail is on average $10,000 higher for Black Americans, and you have a recipe for racist mass incarceration. Let’s end it!
