Mint Chocolate Chance, the Latest Release from Chance the Rapper (feat. Ben & Jerry’s)

Chance the Rapper does it all. He’s an amazing artist, entertainer, entrepreneur, producer, and philanthropist who’s won armfuls of Grammys and other music-industry awards, toured internationally, and written and performed songs that have been downloaded millions of times—all without ever signing a record deal.

Chance is also one of the most politically active, community-centered artists today—he donated millions of dollars of his own money to SocialWorks, a nonprofit he started in Chicago (where he grew up and still lives) with a mission to empower youth.

Clearly, Chance the Rapper does things his own way. That’s why we love him—and that’s why we’re so excited to be collaborating with him on a brand-new flavor, Mint Chocolate Chance!

Mint Chocolate Chance is an ice cream mixtape of Chance’s favorite flavors. (Don’t worry: It comes in Non-Dairy too!) And just like on all of his collaborations, he was a hands-on partner from the very beginning. Mint Chocolate Chance is a new twist on a classic flavor: We took Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream to the next level with rich fudgy brownies from our long-time friends at Greyston Bakery.

Chance and his family were scooping and tasting along with our Flavor Gurus every step of the way to get it just right. And getting it right matters—Mint Chocolate Chip is Chance’s favorite flavor, and he told us that the brownies brought back memories of his mom baking up a batch when he was a kid. Of course, his own two daughters were more than happy to help us, and their dad, make this flavor a new family favorite.

Chance doesn’t just call on his family for help with concocting ice cream flavors. Family is at the heart of who he is. Friends too. His father told him long ago, “Hire your friends,” and that’s what he did. Family and friends are what matter most—along with giving back to the community.

Chance started SocialWorks with two of his closest friends in 2016 to “empower the youth through the arts, education, and civic engagement.” SocialWorks, based in Chicago, is built around five initiatives:

• Kids of the Kingdom: a summer program for kids ages 5-13
• My State of Mind: mental health and wellness services
• The New Chance Fund: an arts and literature fund that has raised more than $5 million for Chicago Public Schools
• OpenMike: a monthly space where high schoolers can perform, share, and connect
• Warmest Winter: assistance for people experiencing homelessness

Chance gave SocialWorks $2 million of his own money a few years ago. Many organizations and brands have since stepped up with donations of their own to make sure that SocialWorks’s initiatives will reach as many people, and do as much good, as possible. A portion of Chance’s proceeds from Mint Chocolate Chance will go to SocialWorks.

Chance’s career hasn’t followed the usual route, and that’s by design. He’s among the most gifted performers in the world today, but he puts just as much of his energy and genius into advocating for causes that he believes in, both in his hometown of Chicago and across the country.

It’s an honor to work with Chance to share a taste of his lyrical brilliance, love of family, and commitment to change in the form of this delicious new flavor.
