Reproductive Rights, Cannabis Justice, Gun Violence… What Issues Will Your Vote Impact This Year?

You know, we’re starting to get pretty excited about Election Day. It’s been a wild couple of months in politics and, honestly, we can’t wait to head out to the polls with millions of our friends, family, and neighbors and make our voices heard.

It’s a presidential election year too, which definitely adds some buzz, but there’s so much more than the presidency on the ballot. In fact, in many states, voters will get to weigh in on some of the most important issues facing the country, including abortion and reproductive rights, cannabis justice, gun violence, immigration, and democracy itself!

Let’s take a look at where we can use our power to protect our rights this November.

Issue: Reproductive Rights

Where it’s on the ballot: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, South Dakota

Ever since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and the will of the people in 2022, voters have had to use their power to strengthen reproductive rights in their states and ensure that every person can make the best decision for themselves and their bodies.

In fact, voters have backed abortion rights and access in every single state where it’s been on the ballot.

Ready to do it again in these 8 states this November?!

Issue: Cannabis Justice

Where it’s on the ballot: Florida, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota

Recreational cannabis is legal in 24 states—almost half the country! Medical marijuana is legal in 37 states. But people—disproportionately people of color—are still being arrested for cannabis, even in states that have legalized it.

Cannabis should be legal—but we should also repair the harm that drug laws have done to people, especially Black and Brown people, for decades.

This year, voters in __ states have the chance to expand or implement cannabis protections for the first time, which is a powerful first step.

Issue: Gun Violence

Where it’s on the ballot: Colorado

No matter how many people are killed by guns in the US (between 25,000 and 50,000 people every single year since 1990), the pro-gun lobby keeps trying to make it easier for guns to be sold and used across the US.

It’s time to stand up and help end gun violence this year!

Coloradans should vote YES on taxing guns and ammunition at a higher rate. And if you’re in Massachusetts, please vote NO regarding doing away with existing gun regulations.

Issue: Slavery in Prisons

Where it’s on the ballot: California, Nevada

Did you know that slavery still exists in America? The 13th Amendment, passed after the end of the Civil War, didn’t actually end slavery—it just moved it behind prison walls. It abolished slavery “except as a punishment for a crime."

Almost 160 years after the end of the Civil War, voters in California and Nevada have a chance to ban slavery and involuntary servitude in their state constitutions this year!

This Election Day, vote YES on Proposition 6 in California and Question 4 in Nevada and help end slavery and forced labor in America.

Issue: Immigration

Where it’s on the ballot: Arizona

Everybody wants to find a safe home for themselves and their families. Everybody wants to find work and opportunities that can help them have a better life.

We believe that immigrants make our country stronger. And we stand with everyone seeking safety and opportunity.

The ballot measure in Arizona seeks to punish people for doing just that. Let’s reject this extremist and inhumane policy!

Issue: Democracy

Where it’s on the ballot: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon

Democracy only works when everybody’s voice is heard. But not all elected officials seem to feel that way.

The Supreme Court’s 2013 Shelby v. Holder decision gutted the Voting Rights Act and unleashed a wave of voter-suppression laws that continue to make it harder to vote in dozens of states. And more such laws are being proposed all the time.

This year, say NO to voter-suppression efforts in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Nebraska, and Ohio. And say YES to measures in Connecticut, Michigan, Nevada, and Oregon that expand voting rights or strengthen the democratic process.
