40 Years of Saturday Night Live

There are lots of big things going on this fall. Sweaters will exit the storage shelves and that guy in the office is promising to bring in balloons for his birthday. Perhaps biggest of all, though, is Saturday Night Live coming back for its 40th season.

Our Flavor Gurus have created a series of SNL-inspired flavors to celebrate the anniversary. The first two of the four flavors, Lazy Sunday and Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch have hit our Scoop Shops nationwide.

Let’s watch some of our favorite sketches from the show’s history in anticipation of the laughs to come:

The Monologue That Started it All

On October 11, 1975, NBC’s Saturday Night took to the airwaves for the first time. George Carlin was the guest host, performing three monologues and appearing in zero sketches. It was the first and only time a host held that role.

The Delicious Dish

Pete Schweddy uses an old family recipe to make some delicious balls. They’re tender, smell great, and are bigger than you’d expect.

Lazy Sunday

The digital short that started it all, we watched this over and over when it first came out. It’s 8 years later, and we still can’t get enough of those cupcakes, cousin. So we made it into a Scoop Shop flavor!

Two Wild and Crazy Guys

Flashy clothes, flailing arms, and wild gyrations with every step they take. These slick-talking brothers knew what it took to tame an American fox. Those poor girls…

Wayne’s World

Wayne and Garth make parents’ basements cool again. Party time! Excellent! And a Driver’s Ed teacher we all wish we had.

James Brown’s Celebrity Hot Tub Party

Of course it’s hot in the hot tub, Mr. Brown. It’s a hot tub.

Chippendale’s Auditions

There’s dancing, and then there’s dancing. Adrian and Barney do the latter. We’re not sure the judges made the right decision in this one.

Behind the Music: Blue Oyster Cult

Without this sketch, we don’t think anyone on the planet would ever ask for more cowbell. And that would be a tragedy.

Oops I Crapped My Pants

Sometimes you just can’t hold it. And you know what? This product makes it totally ok.

Gilly at the Science Fair

Where Gilly goes, mischief follows. We’re hoping she doesn’t cause too much damage in our Scoop Shops with her new flavor, Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch.

Bass O Matic

Have an abundance of bass and need a new way to prepare it? Problem solved.

Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker

Forget condos, houses, and luxury high-rises. Society’s greatest motivational speaker lives in a van down by the river.

Mom Jeans

Some styles are never out of fashion. And then there are some that are never in but are always around. Guess where Mom Jeans fall.

Gift-giving hasn’t been the same since the world learned it was ok to give a bit of yourself.
