B Corps we Love: Greyston Bakery
As New York State's first B Corporation, and a champion for social enterprise with a pioneering 'Open Hiring Model,' we're proud to work with Greyston Bakery!

Whenever we’re in New York City, we like to stop by Yonkers to visit our friends at Greyston Bakery. As trailblazers for better business through their innovative ‘open hiring model,’—that's right, they'll provide a job to anyone, regardless of background—and as the first Benefit Corporation in New York State, Greyston Bakery isn’t just making the sweet brownie treats for our ice cream—they’re making a pretty sweet difference in the Yonkers community, as well.
In allowing anyone who walks through the factory doors seeking a job to have one, Greyston Bakery has pioneered a hiring system with a conscience, and has established itself as leader in social enterprise. Greyston’s commitment to giving struggling individuals a start at a new professional life has fostered a sense of family within their four walls, and it’s this same spirit of care that continues to encourage community and economic renewal in their own backyard.
With 80 employees engaged and invested in the social mission of the bakery, employees frequently participate in volunteer opportunities throughout the year as a way of giving back to their city. Bakers also help keep leaders at Greyston in the loop about Yonkers, providing important insights on the needs of the community. Greyston’s initiatives have created job development programs, have helped bakers receive their GEDs, and have also provided affordable housing and childcare to employees, taking their mission beyond the walls of the workplace.
With over 2,500 residents served annually by the organization’s programs, we’re proud to work with the folks at Greyston Bakery. Next time you pick up a pint of Chocolate Fudge Brownie, remember you aren’t just satisfying your sweet tooth, but the needs of a community working hard to create a sustainable workforce, as well!
