December 22, 2014
Shhhh. Listen. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of 2015 getting closer with every word you read. It’s almost time for parties, resolutions, and rebooting the calendar for another trip around the sun. Before all of that, though, it’s time for a whole slew of Top 10 lists from the year that was. We’re going to get the ball rolling with one of our own. Check out our 10 most popular flavors from 2014:
-
10. Peanut Butter Cup
Nobody knows the identity of the first person in history to combine peanut butter and chocolate; that hero’s name has been lost to time. But their contribution to society lives on, and it forms the base for 2014’s 10th most popular flavor.
-
9. Americone Dream
Stephen Colbert is on his way to bigger and better things, and he’s taking his flavor with him. There’s something about fudge covered waffle cone pieces that the world just can’t get enough of!
-
8. Chunky Monkey
We’re not going to say that ice cream lovers go ape for this flavor. That’s a pun we refuse to make. But people have definitely gone nuts for the mixture of banana ice cream, fudge chunks and walnuts.
-
7. Coffee Toffee Bar Crunch
We changed the name of an old favorite to reflect its new Fairtrade Certified and non-GMO sourced ingredients. Looks like this was a change for the better!
-
6. Strawberry Cheesecake
Whoever said you can’t have your cheesecake and scoop it too has never heard of this flavor. But since it’s hanging out at number 6, we’re guessing lots of people are on board with our graham cracker swirl.
-
5. Phish Food
It was the summer of Fuego for our favorite boys from Vermont. And for everyone else? An entire year of fudge fish and gooey caramel and marshmallow swirls. Everybody won.
-
4. Chocolate Fudge Brownie
Chocolate on top of chocolate. It’s a recipe that tastes good and does good, as our brownies come from Greyston Bakery, whose mission is to provide jobs and training to low-income residents from their community of Yonkers, New York.
-
3. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Often imitated, never duplicated. We introduced the world to this flavor in 1991, and it continues to be a fan favorite year after year.
-
2. Cherry Garcia
It still feels weird seeing Cherry Garcia at number 2. It held the top spot for more than a decade before being dethroned last year. Still, second place is nothing to sneeze at, and we think Jerry would be okay sharing the spotlight with our top flavor of 2014.
-
1. Half Baked
To be the best you have to beat the best, and that’s exactly what this flavor did when it knocked Cherry Garcia from the throne in 2013. Half Baked’s combination of brownies and cookie dough held on for the second year in a row to be this year’s #1 flavor.
