It seems like everybody’s always excited about the latest gadget, the freshest hit movie, the newest technology, that just-released song, the fad-iest fad. Who can blame them? We love that stuff too. We love dreaming up never-before-tasted Scoop Shop delights and launching new flavors.
But you might be surprised, in this fresh-obsessed, make-it-new culture, how many of our old-school, tried-and-true flavors are still going strong. Twelve. Yup, a dozen of our finest flavors were introduced over 20 years ago and are still fan favorites.
-
1. Cherry Garcia
1987: If you’ve been loving Cherry Garcia for the past 30 years, then be sure to thank Jane Williamson. She’s the rock star whose suggestion in 1986 led to the creation of this world-conquering flavor. Put your spoons in the air if you hope that Cherry Garcia lives forever.
-
2. New York Super Fudge Chunk
1985: We asked ourselves, how many different kinds of chunks can you fit in one pint? Answer: a lot! White and dark fudge chunks, pecans, walnuts, and fudge-covered almonds? Yeah, we still love it.
-
3. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
1984: The flavor idea may have been submitted anonymously, but its fans have never tried to hide their enthusiasm. It’s been a huge favorite for more than three decades, and it shows no sign of slowing down.
-
4. Chocolate Fudge Brownie
1990: We teamed up with Greyston Bakery in 1988 and two years later we had a winning formula: Their fudgy brownies + our chocolate ice cream = an eternity of euphoria.
-
5. Vanilla Caramel Fudge
1994: Who would have thought that pints of creamy vanilla ice cream swirling with gooey caramel and luscious fudge would be popular for so long? Hmm. We might have just answered our own question.
-
6. Coffee Toffee Bar Crunch
1986: When we started sourcing only non-GMO ingredients, we had to change the recipe for this old favorite. Would people still love it? Well, the verdict is in: they still can’t get enough!
-
7. Coffee Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz
1996: Even for us it’s hard to believe that this eye-widening, cobweb-clearing concoction has been packing jolts of joy for 20 years!
-
8. Mint Chocolate Cookie
1991: No matter how many years go by, nothing diminishes that crisp and refreshing arctic blast of mint or the timeless pleasure of chocolate sandwich cookies.
-
9. Chunky Monkey
1988: Monkey around with ingredients all you want, but don’t expect to come up with anything that tastes better than this glorious combination of bananas, fudge chunks, and walnuts.
-
10. Chubby Hubby
1994: What started out as an ingenious office practical joke in York, PA, has turned into seriously phenomenal worldwide fan favorite. And no wonder. Who doesn’t love fudge-covered pretzels?
-
11. Pistachio Pistachio
1988: We love pistachios. We really love pistachios. And Pistachio Pistachio’s glorious 28-year run of celebrating rich pistachio goodness tells us we’re not alone.
-
12. Peanut Butter Cup
1989: No surprise here: People have always been nutty about peanut butter ice cream with chocolatey peanut butter cups.
