Last Saturday, we invited a group of Vermont Instagrammers to our factory for a special behind-the-scenes tour. The group of six, had been previously featured on our Instagram account as part of our series, #VermontByVermonters.

First, the Instagrammers took the iconic Factory Tour before meeting our Shift Lead, Ana. Ana then invited the group on a very special tour of the production floor, where they were making one of our new Core flavors: That’s My Jam. Each guest then suited up, complete with brightly colored hard hats and neon-orange safety vests, and ventured onto the production floor.

The Instagrammers were allowed to take photos of the manufacturing process while Ana provided them with a detailed explanation of how we make Ben & Jerry’s from receiving the ingredients, to making our base mix, adding chunks, putting the final product into packaging, and then the spiral hardener (where temps are around -40 degrees, burr!)

Just before leaving the production floor, each Instagrammer hand-picked their own, still soft, pint of ice cream and indulged in what can only be described as euphoric bliss: fresh ice cream right off the line! A few even managed to polish off the entire just-made pint!
With happy bellies, the guests met with Haylee, a flavor guru, who escorted them into the Flavor Lab to create their very own custom Ben & Jerry’s flavors. One flavor was dubbed Beard Buzz, which included a coffee-malt base, with chocolate covered espresso beans, a whiskey caramel and fudge swirl, and chocolate covered waffle cone pieces.

Next, Haylee handed out samples of an exclusive batch she’s currently working on. We can’t tell you what was in it, but it was tart and tangy and our Instagram team LOVED it! Maybe it will hit pints as a future limited batch?
